The little one and I currently go to two classes a week but when it's cold and rainy or the little one is having a fussy day then an indoor play day is needed. ❄️🌨️

My little one is growing up so fast and keeping him entertained for more than a few minutes can be challenging, so today I decided to make an at-home sensory room. 🏮🧸

Items Included

I included a lot of his regular toys just arranged in mini stations around his playpen including:

📚 A book section - hard and soft books to feel

🧺 A basket full of items - great for filling with random objects of different textures or sizes

🎀 A section with a comforter, ribbons and muslins (great for playing peekaboo)

🎶🪇 Musical toys these could be pots and a spoon instead of toys (this was his favourite)

🪞 I also included some height with a play mirror, so he could play on his knees - he is almost crawling, so this worked great with a tummy time pillow.

💡 Finally, I added a light that gave the whole place a calming vibe.

All items can be changed for whatever you have in the home. It's just a way to get them focused on mini-activities while at home.

Baby Books Selection
Books at any age are great for development.
A baby play area with a black and white mat, a colorful crab toy, a rainbow ribbon rattle, and patterned blankets in a crib setting.
Introduce different textures.
Colorful baby toys on a polka dot mat, featuring animal designs and a red toy teapot with a star. Soft, playful setting.
Musical Instruments are always a hit as your little one explores new sounds.
Children's playpen with dotted mat, books, toys, and colourful rattles. Pale green walls, cosy and vibrant setting.
Different stations allow for army crawlers or rollers to move around the space.
Patterned cushion with alphabet and mirrored panel. Floral reflection visible. Plush bolster with animals and rainbows on polka-dot mat.
Objects at height help little ones play on their knees, which is great for pre-crawlers.

You can do this sensory activity again and again with different objects and layouts, and it doesn't need to cost a fortune. Any safe item can be used from kitchen utensils to things in the bathroom like flannels, sponges, or soft brushes.

Little ones love to explore so think outside of just toys. 🧽🥄🧤
